Etsy, an online market for handmade crafts, has seen explosive growth in the two plus years that it has been in business. Most indie crafters are probably already familiar with Etsy. Etsy has been embraced by many as a welcome alternative to Ebay like sites for DIYs wanting to sell their handcrafted items. For a small fee, sellers can use Etsy’s services to complete transactions and promote their work.
Etsy also recently launched an online magazine - the Storque, which brings readers a broad view of the DIY movement. Articles cover how-tos, events at Etsy, designer spotlights as well craftivism all of which advances Etsy’s on-going mission to help crafters live by the work of their hands.
Many may also be familiar with Etsy’s street teams. The teams are formed by Etsy members who work to promote both their shops and Etsy. There are over 170 teams – some are geography based, while other teams highlight common interests.
Etsy has also offered a variety of events to promote Etsy artists such as Etsy’s Last Friday Trunk Shows held at Etsy Labs at 325 Gold St. in Brooklyn. DIY City mag visited several over the course of the past year. Take a look at some of the pics from our visits.
